The classes starting from the Squadron were all off on time, bunching to start from the pin end before the wet, windy beat to the first mark. Today these include a few of the cruiser classes and smaller IRC boats as well as the small keelboat and one-design classes. A few individual recalls in some of the keener fleets. The final of the Squadron starts was the XODs, at 1205.
As the start sequence progressed, the wind built to around 19 knots. Later we should be treated to the spectacle of these fleets finishing close inshore at the Squadron line, from around 1330.
Meanwhile, in the slightly more sheltered Osborne Bay the Swallows were off sharp for their first race, their second race is already underway.
Committee Vessel 1 started the larger IRC classes in the vicinity of Fairhall West buoy.
The J/70s and SB20s are on Committee Vessel starts all day today, in the vicinity of Hamble Yacht Services (buoy 4V) for the three races which will complete their short series.
The Cape 31s also have their own Committee Vessel today, situated to the nort-east of East Bramble buoy.
Meanwhile, ashore the buzz around Women's Day is building.
