As Storm Floris has now moved on, a high pressure is now filling the gap. The forecast suggests less wind from the northwest throughout the day, with a transition between the low and high, creating a solid but clean and stable wind. At the time of racing, around 14-16 knots is expected with a wind direction of around 290-300 in the western Solent, 300-310 in the central and eastern Solent. Gusts in the low 20s, perhaps a bit more off Calshot.
We’re expecting a fabulous day of racing all round. First start today is IRC6 from the Squadron line, followed by the Contessa 32s, IRC7, Performance and Club Cruiser classes and then the smaller keelboat classes. All these are planned to finish off the Squadron, so expect some spectacular possible spinnaker action just off the green for those watching shoreside.
The Committee Vessel starts will be around Browndown and Bramble, with the Swallow class, who were due to start their series yesterday, starting from Committee Vessel 4 in Osborne Bay.
Today is Women's Day, as well as plenty of skippers and crews racing out on the water there is a full programme ashore.
