Quail on her way to winning White Group overall – CWL/Paul Wyeth

Ed Peel sailing with family and friends on the 1989-built Redwing – Quail – have won White Group overall with a clear scoreline of five first places.

Although the Peel family have won the Redwing class a total of 14 times overall in the past, this is the first time they have secured the top prize

Peel, James Wilson, Thomas Wilson, Alex Andreae, and Andy Pink were all members of the winning team and were delighted to secure a final race win in today’s race.

As he stepped ashore today Peel commented: “Today the race committee made great decision to keep the races short and get everyone back on shore before the foul weather turned up

“Having watched the previous fleet start on the last of the east-going ebb we decided to start further down the line to benefit from the tide that was beginning to turn inshore. We did over stand the first windward mark up to Peel Bank but picked up a favourable puff and steamed into the lead. We were however, being presurised by Gosling, sailed by Serena Gosling, who were going extremely fast but we managed to hold them off and crossed the line first once again.”

On his reaction on the team’s overall win of White Group, Peel added: “It is absolutely fantastic. We’ve never won it before so we are all delighted. James [Wilson] helmed brilliantly but with his work commitments, I had the joy of the pressure maintaining our leading position. Thankfully today’s win put us in a good position for the overall win so naturally we are happy all round and delighted we were able to achieve it with family and friends.”
