“We’ve had a very close race today with the top five boats finishing within a minute. We had a reasonable start and rounded the top mark in third, second mark second and fought off the spinnakers on the run down.

“Then on the last beat got within a boat length or two of Eric [Williams] then it was just a tacking battle. Good teamwork played a big part of our success but I also think we got a bit lucky.

“It was quite puffy out there and we came together two or three times and the last time we just got one more boat length, which meant we could just keep between him and the finish line.”

“Really pleased to have won again on Ladies Day. To be honest we had a bit of a poor start but managed to recover and play the shifts well up the first beat. We then had a couple of fantastic downwind legs, which favours the J/105, and an interesting tussle round a crowded mark at the top of the second beat. We had a fantastic day and we are really enjoying the close racing.”

“Winning in the Sunbeam class today was all about making sure you read the course correctly. Three out of five boats in our fleet went the wrong way at some point, which naturally gave us the advantage. Thankfully, my crew, one of whom had never sailed a Sunbeam before, worked well and together we managed to keep the lead to the finish. Particularly pleased after yesterday’s race when we ran aground on the rocks and had to retire.”
