Ladies Day looks set to sparkle once again here at Lendy Cowes Week with the glorious weather continuing. A whole host of themed events are happening around town with the highlight of the day’s celebrations, the presentation of the Ladies Day Trophy. Also, those on the water and around town are encouraged to dress nautically in the traditional seafaring navy and white stripes.

As far as the sailing goes it looks as though it will be a similar scenario to yesterday with the wind filling in late morning and a postponement is already in place. Those flying Lendy Ladies Day flags should watch out for the Cowes Week Ltd rib that will be out and about dropping off prizes to those suitably attired.

Racing situation

At 0900 the following signals were in effect:

  • AP over 2 for Bramble and RYS start lines – no races for these classes will take place earlier than two hours after the scheduled time.
  • AP over 1 for the Black Group committee boat – minimum one hour postponement.
  • AP over AP for the Squib class on the White Group committee boat, indicating this class will not start until at least 55 minutes after this signal is removed.

Weather

The weather today is expected to be similar to yesterday with plenty of bright sun, but a wait for a sea breeze to build. The gentle early morning north-westerly breeze will die as the land heats up in more bright sun and will eventually be replaced by a south-westerly in the western Solent, but initially a southerly or south-easterly in the east.

There is a possibility that wind speeds may not increase above six knots until 1400. After then 6-10 knots are expected, with a possibility of an increase to 12-16 knots during the mid to late afternoon.

Activities

With a postponement in place, there is now plenty of time for competitors to join the crowds of visitors for the shoreside activities experience. With a host of interesting shops, stalls and Lendy Ladies Day themed events around town; along Cowes Parade, Cowes Yacht Haven and Shepards Wharf Marina, it is the perfect opportunity to soak up the festive atmosphere at this iconic British regatta.

Today’s 1851 trust workshop theme at the Lendy Lounge is Girls That Can. Sign up at the 1851 Trust stand along the Parade for an 1115 or 1415 start. For a chance to win some great prizes, head to the Westerhall Rum Shack on The Parade who will be offering ladies a free Pink cap for the purchase of any Pink N Stormy glass.

Chatham are offering ladies a £10 discount on any purchase over £100 at their pop-up stall on Cowes Parade, and there will be other on-the-spot prizes around for the event any ladies sporting nautical stripes.
