A selection of quotes from some of the winners of today's racing

Tom Wilson (pit), IRC Class Zero, Gladiator (TP52)

“The team is extremely pleased with today’s result. We had a great sail. It was very up and down as far as the wind went with the sea breeze fighting the gradient in the north. That was very much the pattern of the day.

“Apart from the slight confusion at the first mark, it was a very clean race with some good crew work. We rounded the wrong way and in correcting ourselves lost out a lot and were overtaken by our closest challenger – Lady Mariposa [Ker 46] –  but we managed to claw our way back, thanks in a major way to the expertise of Jules Slater our tactician.

Kate Greenland (tactician) J/70, Jdog, winner of all three races

“We were absolutely delighted to win all three races in a boat kindly loaned to us by the Royal Thames YC. It was also really close racing, which made it even more enjoyable.

“I think today was all about good starts and staying in the pressure. To be honest the boys on board made my life pretty easy today because they all worked really hard in the shifty conditions.”

Shaun Frohlich (helmsman) Etchells, Exabyte

“We had a good race with Man’s Best Friend who led up the first beat round the first mark but we worked our way out to the west and were lifted, and when we tacked after we purposely overstood the mark, we had the tide behind us, which helped us take the lead.

“It was a bit processional with a series of tight reaches and one sided beats from there on but it was tough nevertheless because we had to keep ahead of the fleet at all times. Any mistake and it would have been difficult to get back.”
