Competitors on Family Day at Lendy Cowes Week are enjoying a bright and sunny day with challenging, but exhilarating, racing in a gusty west south-westerly wind, with gusts topping 25 knots.
Most starts got away on schedule, although Black Group’s Bramble line sequence had a 10 minute postponement to allow an outbound tanker to clear the start area before the J/109 class start. The XOD class, which was scheduled to start on the Bramble line at 1245 was postponed until 1300 to allow race officials to reset the start line.
Black Group yachts will have downwind spinnaker finish on the Royal Yacht Squadron line, with the big boats in IRC Class 0 predicted to be the first back a little after 1330. Boats will continue finishing on this line until sometime between 1500 and 1530. White Group dayboats will finish on the Shrape line off East Cowes, starting with the Etchells and Daring classes at around 1300 and continuing until the final XODs cross the line around 1530-1600.
