As newcomers to the event in terms of sponsorship, TNG Swiss Watches – Lendy Cowes Week Official Timing Partner – couldn’t be a better choice for the Newcomer Award.

Frans Dingerdis, founder of TNG Swiss Watches – the high-end nautical watch brand, was delighted to chat this morning about this award, which he says is important to encourage newcomers to the event.

“We decided was a great way of encouraging more newcomers to take part in the regatta. I think it is very important to offer this sort of award to those new teams who’ve made big effort to get here.”

This year, of the 42 newcomers there is a huge representation globally including entries from Italy, Belgium, Russia, Australia, France, Oman and Sweden, as well as a healthy GBR contingent.

One team of newcomers keen to test their skills at this world class regatta is BlueOne, a Beneteau First 36.7, owned by CNCE asbl – a Brussels-based sailing club – and sailed by Massimo Farrugia (skipper) and an amateur crew of club members. Commenting before the regatta started, Farrugia said: We're going to give it our best in the Solent. That does not mean we're not aware of our limits. Our aim is to do well, at least on our own terms. Anything else is a bonus.”

Competition will be intense for this award particularly as one of the limited edition official Lendy Cowes Week watches from the collection is on offer. The watch collection includes four different models; The Classic Tornado, the Classic Cup Chronograph Lady, the Sailmaster and the Baltic Cup Lady. All models have a stylish and refined Official Lendy Cowes Week symbol and a Limited Edition mark on the dial. The back of the case is engraved with the Lendy Cowes Week logo and the unique Limited Edition number.

Dingerdis added: “As well as the actual trophy, the winner will receive a special edition watch, with engraving, specially selected for the sailor.  In addition to the Newcomers’ Trophy, we will be presenting many other prizes including the overall winners of Black and White groups and other key events including Elemis Ladies Day.”

Take a stroll along Cowes Parade to view what TNG has on offer at its stand this week. There is even a chance for children to win a watch in the photo Instagram photo competition.
