13:19 Saturday 29 Jul 2017 Rupert Holmes/CWLLunchtime update - day 1

This morning started bright with sunny spells and a civilised westerly breeze of 10-15 knots, giving excellent conditions for the classes with early starts. All fleets have now completed their start sequences, although the wind has reduced under a band of patchy rain that’s slowly sweeping across southern England.

The Etchells class is predicted to be the first of the White Group boats to finish racing for the day, with the leaders reaching the Shrape finish line off East Cowes around 1300. The final class to conclude racing today, the XOD fleet, is expected to finish here from around 1600 onwards.

The larger Black Group yachts will be finishing on the Royal Yacht Squadron line, approaching from the east. They are predicted to be led home by the J/109 fleet from around 1405 onwards, with the finishing sequence here concluding with the slower boats in the IRC Class 2 fleet around 1600.
