A spectacular aeronautical display by the 690mph RAF Typhoon, and the legendary regatta fireworks display last night attracted thousands of spectators both on and off the water.
This morning competitors are up and about bright and early in preparation for the final day (day 8) of Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week.
Although many classes have completed their series, and Black and White Group winners have been announced, racing continues for the remaining classes, which includes IRC 0-7, Cruiser Divsions A and B, plus those yet to complete their series – J/70, Sportsboat, SB20, Etchells, Daring, J/80, Dragon, Sonar, Solent Sunbeam, Swallow, Redwing, Flying 15, Squib, Seaview Mermaid and XOD.
Another glorious day of sun and west to south-west winds are predicted today. The wind is forecast to be around 5-8 knots at the time of the first starts and will then build from lunchtime onwards to 8-14 knots this afternoon.
All racing today will start and finish on the Royal Yacht Squadron line, with the large yachts in IRC Class 0 first away at 1010 and XODs – the biggest fleet at the regatta – the last start at 1255.
The concluding event of Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week is the overall prizegiving at the Events Centre at Cowes Yacht Haven at 1900. Everyone is welcome.
