Ladies Day looks set to sparkle in more ways than one today thanks not only to the generous sponsorship by the artisan gin brand – Slingsby, but also the glorious weather that is set to continue.

Today sees a ridge of high pressure over southern England, giving more gentle conditions on the water. At 0830 there was a west-northwesterly breeze over the Solent of 8-12 knots, which is expected to reduce during the afternoon. While there will be plenty of sun, especially through the morning and early afternoon, air temperatures over the mainland are not expected to be sufficiently high to generate a sea breeze or thermal enhancement.

Today fleets will again sail predominately in the eastern Solent, with Black Group yachts starting on the Bramble line having a downwind start. The White Group dayboats starting on the Royal Yacht Squadron line will initially head to the west, before routing onto the Hill Head plateau. The XOD class will start from the White Group committee boat positioned close to the north shore near Hill Head.

To enter the spirit of Ladies Day, competitors and visitors are encouraged to embrace the theme by wearing classic seafaring navy and white strip attire. Keep a watch out for Aberdeen Asset Management ‘style hunters’ who have plenty of Slingsby Gin prizes to be awarded to those ladies sporting the most stylish nautical dress, both on and off the water.

Elsewhere the Ladies Day theme continues with a special stage Q&A session with the Magenta Project, compered by TV presenter Nick Knowles at 4pm. This will also include a fun ‘Get your kit on’ competition in conjunction with Musto.
