Adam Gosling – IRC Class 3, JPK 1080+, Yes!

“We had another fabulous race today, with a good, classic Cowes Week running start in about 12kts of breeze. We didn’t have the best start and were fourth at the first leeward mark. We continued to claw back places and by the wing mark we were in second and, on the long beat that followed we managed to take the lead. From there on it was just a case of keeping the rest of the fleet behind. Thankfully it paid off and we were able to claim our third win of the week.

“I believe consistency is the key to success. We have the same crew all the time, plus we have a new boat, which is really performing well. We’ve already done three regattas and, as a team we are continually learning about the boat. So far the boat seems extremely fast in all conditions so naturally we are extremely pleased.”

Peter Morton – Fast40+, Girls on Film

“Yesterday we had breakages, which put us into a bad position, so today before the race, we said lets avoid that. We had an average start but trusted in ourselves and the boat and, with some good crew work, we performed well.

Girls on Film is quick, especially downwind where we seem to be able to sail a bit lower than the fleet, which is a good tactical weapon. Our success has a lot to do with teamwork; the boat is easy to sail because she is so well balanced. If the helm feels out of kilter it is easy to correct with the trim but we have a great crew and it is rarely the case.

“Well done to the race committee today it was another good course. I must say I enjoy racing in the Eastern Solent more than the West; it is more tactical. The Western Solent can be very one-sided because of the tide. It is great to be leading but this fleet is very competitive and we will not be taking anything for granted.”

John Mander – Flying 15, Men Behaving Badly

“We were pleased with another win today but there are some good guys at the front so we are not having it all our own way. Today we largely won the race on the first leg, then it was all about sailing a good course to the north buoy [Quinnell] in the strong west to east going tide. Getting the tide right was crucial. It was another long and complex 12-mark course today, which is tough for what is effectively a low freeboard dinghy with a lump of lead on the keel. Anyway we survived and we’re certainly happy to be leading at this stage of the regatta, although young Will Heritage on Freddie Flintoff in second, will be one to watch. So far he has two seconds.”
