Following another day of sparkling sailing on the Solent yesterday, where teams raved about the classic conditions enthusiasm among teams for more top-class racing today, couldn’t be stronger. Teams are also keen to fly the flag to support UKSA – Aberdeen Asset Management’s official charity – on Charity Day.
Competitors are likely to expect another sunny day but this morning’s fresh west north-westerly wind of 14-16 knots is forecast to slowly reduce during the afternoon as patchy cloud moves south from the mainland.
Most of the racing will take place in the eastern Solent, where there are more options to set good upwind and downwind courses. Black Group yachts starting from the Bramble line will therefore have a downwind start, before finishing on either the Bramble or Shrape finish lines. The Black Group Committee Boat will be stationed off the north shore of the Solent, a little to the west of Gilkicker Point.
White Group dayboats will start from the Royal Yacht Squadron line heading initially towards the west, before routing to the Hill Head plateau and then finishing on the Royal Yacht Squadron line.
In an effort to help the UKSA reach their £80,000 target during the Week, the Cowes-based sailing centre are running a selection of activities from their stand in Cowes Yacht Haven, including the hugely popular Try Sailing. There will also be the chance to win a sailing holiday for six in the Mediterranean in the UKSA/Sunsail raffle. Head to the Regatta Centre or the UKSA stand in the Yacht Haven to purchase tickets, only £2.50 each and find out more of what’s on offer including the UKSA Auction, which has many fabulous lots up for grabs such as a day sailing for six on the super-fast MOD70 multihull – Team Concise.
Tickets are on also sale at the stand for Wednesday evening’s UKSA charity party.
