This morning’s brisk west-southwesterly wind peaked with adrenaline pumping 25 knot gusts for the first starts, before reducing to 16-20 knots for the rest of the morning. The thin cloud above the Solent is starting to clear and another afternoon of bright sun is forecast.

All classes are now racing, with the starts on the fixed Royal Yacht Squadron and Bramble lines got away on time, although the first start on the Black Group committee boat, for the J/109 class, was subject to a general recall.

The first While Group dayboats are expected to finish on the Shrape line off East Cowes from 1300 onwards. The larger yachts in Black Group will be finishing in classic Aberdeen Asset Management style, approaching the Royal Yacht Squadron line close inshore past the Green with spinnakers set. The first of these will finish around 1430, with the largest yachts in IRC Class 0 and the FAST40+ class expected just after 1500.
