Following a spectacular fireworks display last night crews are up and about enjoying the early morning sunshine preparing for the final day (day 8) of Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week.
Although many classes have completed their series, and Black and White Group winners have been announced, racing continues in earnest for the remaining classes, which includes IRC 0-7, Cruiser Divsions A and B, plus those yet to complete their series – J/70s, Sportsboats, SB20s, Etchells, Darings, J/80s, Dragon, Sonar, Solent Sunbeam, Swallow, Redwing, Flying 15, Squib, Seaview Mermaid and XODs.
The big social event of the day is Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week overall prizegiving in the Events Centre at Cowes Yacht Haven at 1900.
Weather and courses
Today will be bright with a light north-westerly breeze, with a possibility of a sea breeze late this afternoon. The plan is to start the racing on time, with White Group day boats all starting on the Royal Yacht Squadron line, heading west. They will then sail in the western Solent, before finishing back on the RYS line, short tacking along the shore against the tide.
The Black Group yachts, which will be racing for individual daily prizes, will start from the fixed Bramble line heading east. They will then sail courses in the eastern Solent before being routed back to the northern part of the western Solent, with their last leg a reach across the tide into the RYS line.
