While most of today's racing is now underway, start sequences had to be postponed for a period this morning, as the south-south-westerly wind first eased and then veered to the north-west. There’s now a reasonably steady and stable airflow over the Solent area of 6-9 knots, with some lighter patches, that’s set to continue for the rest of the day.
The start sequences are continuing on both the Royal Yacht Squadron lines for White Group dayboat classes, and on the fixed Bramble line for Black Group yachts, with the last class to start currently scheduled as the XODs at 1405.
Race officials are setting relatively short courses and the first boats in the J/70, SB20 and J/109 classes that started before the postponement have already finished. Black Group yachts will begin to finish on the RYS line, heading from the west close to the shore against the tide, once the XOD fleet has cleared the line.
