There has been plenty of action and fierce competition on the water today, even despite the damp morning in Cowes, thanks to thundery rain that moved north across the English Channel from France earlier today.
Most classes have now completed their starting sequences, with the first of the Black Group classes – the big yachts in the IRC Big Boat class and IRC Class 1 that are competing for the New York Yacht Club Challenge Cup – expected to finish on the Royal Yacht Squadron line from 1330 onwards.
The early finishers among the 16 large yachts with celebrity crews competing in the Artemis Challenge at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week are expected to return from their 50-mile circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight from 1400 onwards. The first of the White Group dayboats will finish on the fixed Bramble line starting with the J/70s around 1310, while later classes, starting with the Dragons at around 1435, will be finishing on the Shrape line off East Cowes.
