13:00 Wednesday 12 Aug 2015 Rupert Holmes/CWLDay 5 lunchtime update - a superb sailing day

A superb day for racing at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week

Today is a lovely warm day in Cowes, with an east-north-easterly breeze of 8-12 knots, making for excellent sailing conditions. All classes have now started, apart from the XOD fleet, whose first start at 1250 was subject to a general recall.

The first boats expected to finish on the Royal Yacht Squadron line were the five 60-72 footers competing in the IRC Big Boat class at 1300. Following that, White Group dayboats will be finishing on the RYS line from 1400 until after 1600, although there’s a possibility of some classes having shortened courses if the breeze eases this afternoon. Black Group yachts, starting with the J/109 class, are predicted to begin finishing on the Shrape line off East Cowes from around 1330 onwards.
