Despite a dull start, the vibe in Town is good with competitors beginning to psych themselves up for what could be a light-air, tactical day on the water.
A band of rain cleared across Cowes before breakfast this morning, leaving a slack pressure gradient in its wake. As a result there’s currently almost no wind over The Solent – maximum gusts are only two to three knots.
Stuart Quarrie – Sailing Director of Cowes Week Limited – commented: “We’re therefore in a holding pattern at the moment and will almost certainly be going to a postponement for all classes that will be reviewed on an hourly basis.”
When racing does get underway, IRC Class 0 will be competing for the prestigious Britannia Cup, while some classes including the J/70s and SB20s will have the final race of their mini-series of seven races, which took place over the first four days of the regatta.
Given the situation, competitors and visitors to the Island are making the most of the on-shore activities taking place to celebrate Liz Earle Ladies Day.
