Cowes Week Limited (CWL) is delighted to announce a new relationship with Chilgrove Gin which joins the family of sponsors supporting Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week in 2015 as the Official Gin.

The award-winning Chilgrove Dry Gin was launched just last June and is a stunning, super-premium gin conceived in the heart of West Sussex, in the hamlet of Chilgrove. Managing Director, Christopher Beaumont-Hutchings, explains what’s special about it: “Chilgrove Gin is produced in small batches and is the first ever British gin to use grapes for its base distillation. This makes it incredibly smooth when compared to traditional cereal based gins. It’s a seriously big, powerful, complex and impressive gin; but don’t take my word for it! We’ll be providing plenty of tasting opportunities throughout this year’s regatta, so competitors and visitors to the event can try it for themselves”.

The natural affinity between gin and the sea is steeped in a tradition that stretches back centuries so it’s entirely fitting that Chilgrove Gin should be associated with the historic regatta. The British Royal Navy was famously fond of the juniper-based spirit and the deployment of the Navy throughout the world contributed to the popularity and consumption of gin globally. The humble G&T is also an effective (and delicious) defence against seasickness due to the stomach calming effects of quinine and carbonation.

Commenting on the announcement, CWL’s Sales & Marketing Director, Michelle Warner, said: “This is the first time that Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week has had an official gin and we’re in extremely good company with Chilgrove. Out of the 400+ gins in the world Harrods stock just a handful and, following a blind tasting and review by their buying team, Chilgrove was added into this list just two weeks after launching in June last year. We’re delighted that this super-premium product is joining our family of sponsors in supporting this year’s regatta and we look forward to working with Chilgrove to introduce their exciting new gin to the event audience”.

Chilgrove Gin will be available at Cowes Yacht Haven, Cowes Parade, Northwood House and Shepards Wharf Marina as well as at the various yacht clubs and bars throughout the town.
