This morning’s indefinite postponement flags came down at 1035, with the wind settling around west-southwest and climbing to 10 knots at the Bramble. The first start, heading west from the Royal Yacht Squadron line was for J/70s at 1145. The first start for Black Group yachts on the Bramble line was 15 minutes later. So far both start sequences are running to schedule, with no further postponements.
Between 1200 and 1300 the wind moved 25 degrees towards the south-west, slowly increasing from around 8-10 knots to 14 knots, giving excellent sailing conditions. The first Black Group yachts are expected to finish on the Royal Yacht Squadron line, approaching from the west, from 1430 onwards.
Today’s race will determine the overall results of many of the White Group dayboat classes, which have been given long courses for a testing final race. The first finishers, on the Shrape line off East Cowes, are expected from 1500 onwards, with later finishers possibly as late as 1700.
