Visitors to Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week this week may well have spotted the rather smart Mills Custom-designed 39, emblazoned with the name of its new sponsor – local letterbox – down the side of its hull. Skippered by James Gair, Zero II local letterbox has scored some impressive results this week including a first in Class 3 on Wednesday.
The new company – local letterbox – is the only national network of dedicated parcel shops, and their involvement with this local yacht is part of their marketing campaign to help spread the word about this interesting new parcel service.
The company’s involvement with Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week is extensive and includes the sponsorship of last night’s magnificent Red Arrows display.
They have also introduced a new trophy for the Best Newcomer to be presented at this evening’s overall prizegiving.
This spectacular new solid stainless steel trophy was designed and handcrafted by Edd O’kane, who specialises in stainless steel fabrication, and who works for one of the local letterbox businesses.
Chatting about the new trophy, Zoe Ombler, Chief Operating Officer at local letterbox, said: “We are thrilled to have been so involved with Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week and and to have had a chance to engage with the local community. We are particularly pleased to be presenting this wonderful new trophy, which is an amazing work of art from Edd who has worked round the clock to ensure it was ready on time.
“The idea for the design was inspired by the ‘newcomer’ theme. We decided the trophy should illustrate a new boat being built to highlight the ‘new’ connection.”
The local letterbox Newcomer Trophy will be on display at the prizegiving ceremony, which takes place at the Events Centre at Cowes Yacht Haven at 1900.
