IRC 1 and Class 0 are racing for the prestigious New York Yacht Club Challenge Cup today, on day three of the four-day Big Boat series.
This fleet, together with Classes 2,3, and 4, are starting in the Warner mark area, and the course will take the fleet to the far eastern end of The Solent where more breeze is expected.
Johnny Vincent and his team on Pace the TP52 will be hoping to defend their winning title from last year but stiff competition from Sir Keith Mills’ TP52 – 5 Degrees West – should make for some exciting action on the racecourse once again today.
Some of the celebrities to look out for at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week today include Sir Matthew Pinsent CBE who won gold medals in rowing, at four consecutive Olympic Games.
Today Pinsent will be among the crew of the Volvo Ocean Race yacht, Azzam, skippered by Ian Walker (double Olympic silver medalist), who will be filmed by BT Sport.
David Seaman, one of the best England goal keepers in history, will also be visiting Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week today as a spectator with his girlfriend and Dancing On Ice skating professional, Frankie Poultney, and his two children Georgina and Robbie.
Elsewhere, this afternoon, there’ll be plenty of action off The Green with a fleet of 18ft Skiff sailors planning to demonstrate just how fast and exciting these high-performance dinghies really are. The event, which can be viewed from the shore, is scheduled to start at 1700, weather dependent.
