With no racing yesterday, competitors are itching to get on the water today to resume racing on Day 5 of Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week.

The plan is to get boats on the water as soon as possible this morning because light winds are forecast, and there is no guarantee that the sun will break through the clouds enough to produce a decent sea breeze to replace this morning’s light gradient light north-easterly of 5-10 knots. In fact, if the sun does burn through the cloud this afternoon the most likely scenario is a lengthy calm, with the sea breeze failing to get established.

The plan is therefore to get all classes started on time this morning. All White Group classes will start to the east from the Royal Yacht Squadron line, with courses set on south-eastern side of the Knoll Bank, with a finish on the Shrape line.

Black Group boats starting on the Bramble line will race in the near western Solent and the north side of the Hill Head area, before finishing on the RYS line from the west.

To give the best chance of the big Black Group boats getting a decent wind for racing, the Black Group committee boat will run racing for IRC Classes 0-4, J/111, J/109, First 40.7 and Sigma 38s in the eastern approaches to the Solent off Bembridge.
