The four-day short series for J/70s and SB20s was cut short as a result of no wind on the race course today. However, with five races to count, the overall winners are confirmed.

Here's what they had to say:

SB20, Grand Slam overall winner

Jerry Hill, helmsman sportsboatworld.com – confirmed winners of third and final event in the SB20 Grand Slam event.

“We had great, and at times, really challenging racing. The strong entry is testament to the success of the three-day format, with entries from Russia, Holland, France and Ireland, as well as a good British contingent. The international competitors are raving about this event and seemed to enjoy it so much, they are promising to return next year.

“On a personal note, it is great to win because we were up against some tough competition. The event is proving to be the  perfect warm up for the forthcoming world championship in Hyeres in September.

“Looking ahead to the rest of the week, yes, we’ll have a slightly reduced entry because some will be heading off home tonight, but I am really looking forward to some equally good, maybe slightly less intense, racing.”

J/70, Short Series overall winner

Ruairidh Scott, helmsman North Sails.

“I would like to say hats off to the organisers for taking the decision to run two races a day. It has transformed the event for us and I know it has encouraged more to think about taking part next year. Two shorter races really keeps interest levels up and it is good to be back on shore early/mid afternoon to enjoy the shore side activities.

“I believe the key elements to winning at Aberbeen Asset Management Cowes Week include having good all round boat speed, a crew with thorough knowledge of The Solent, and 100 per cent concentration from the whole team.”
