A special ceremony to mark the retirement of Ian Lallow took place at Cowes Week Limited's cocktail party at the Royal Yacht Squadron last night.

Guests at the party attended the presentation to Ian Lallow (70) with a glorious oil painting to commemorate his retirement as chairman of Cowes Town Regatta after 27 years where, in this capacity, he has served a total of 30 years on the committee of CCC.

The painting, presented to Lallow by Peter Nicholson, and painted by Mike Till – fellow sailor and Rear Commodore of the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club – shows a selection of Lallow’s yachts in action on the startline.

Commenting on the painting, Lallow said: “I am overwhelmed because I knew nothing about it beforehand. The painting, depicting a start line, shows the beautiful motor yacht that my father built in 1961, and which I use as committee boat. The boats on the start line are, in fact, other boats I have owned in the past including my three Dragons and an XOD. It is wonderful and I feel honoured to be able to put it on my wall.”

At last night’s ceremony, Nicholson expressed his greatest thanks to Lallow for his dedication to Cowes Week. “Ian Lallow has spent most of his life ensuring the week runs smoothly. He is dedicated to making sure competitors get the best racing possible. Without Ian Lallow, we wouldn’t have the sort of regatta that we have today.”
