With no signs of conditions that would lead to a consistent wind developing, race officials have made the decision to abandon all racing at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week for the day.
Layered cloud has built over the Solent during the morning, rather than dissipating. This means there’s no prospect of the mixing of air from the upper atmosphere down to sea level that will be needed to create a decent sailing wind given the very weak pressure gradient over the Solent area today.
However, tonight’s planned festivities, starting with the RAF Typhoon Display at 1920, The Red Arrows at 1930 and the Fireworks at 2130 will be taking place as scheduled, as will tomorrow’s racing, for which stronger and more consistent winds are forecast.
