Competitors are this morning preparing for a one minute silence at 1000 in memory of all those who have served in defence of the nation. The Royal Naval Patrol Vessel HMS Mersey will sail past the Royal Yacht Squadron before racing gets underway.
Light but consistent conditions winds are expected which should provide some good, tactical racing.
A weak low pressure system is moving across The Solent area this morning, but although it will feel cooler than the past few days no significant rain is expected.
The southerly early morning breeze that was predicted at 4-8 knots in the mid Solent is already at the top end of that range and is predicted to reach 12 knots by late morning, with stronger gusts in the afternoon, but also a possibility of large lulls. The breeze will swing towards the south-west during the afternoon.
The White Group Committee Boat that will run starts today for J/70, SB20 and XOD classes will be positioned near William buoy, to the east of the entrance to Southampton Water. The remainder of the White Group dayboats will start from the Royal Yacht Squadron line heading towards the east, before finishing on the RYS line from the west, after racing predominately in the Hill Head plateau.
Black Group yachts starting from the Bramble line will be starting to the east, while the Black Group Committee Boat will be stationed near between Browndown and Aberdeen E, to the west of Gilkicker Point.
