Etchells
It was a great day for the Goddard family who took first and second place in the Etchells fleet. Rob Goddard and team aboard Stampede took their first win of the week, while Goddard’s son Ashley, was a member of the crew on second-placed Darling S.
Rob Goddard commenting on his win: “Today it was all about reading the tides correctly and maintaining good boat speed. Interestingly, we took the lead on the first and, although we lost it for a while, we managed to claw back into the lead and, by sailing way to the north out the tide, managed to finish with a decent margin.”
Victory
Janet Dee, Shaun Hopkins, and Stephen Fry were delighted with their class win in the Victory class today particularly as it was such a close-fought race.
Dee chatting about the race, said: “It was all about making the right calls on the tide and shifty wind. It was particularly tough out there because we were pushed all the way. We lost our lead for a while but good crew work and sail trim, and keeping our wits about us paid dividends. Very enjoyable race and we’re looking forward to more of the same tomorrow.”
IRC Class 0
Lloyd Hamilton and his crew of injured servicemen aboard the Farr 45 Toe in the Water Too enjoyed a tough and exciting race to take their first win of the week.
Hamilton commented: “It was all a bit close and we were worried about being caught by the other Farr 45s. We became obsessed with ‘looking in the mirror’, a bit like in a Formula 1 racing car, which didn’t help our cause but with excellent crew work we managed to keep up the speed and win by 18 seconds on corrected time. Some of the crew had never raced before, so we are all really pleased. The team is also shattered and currently taking a quick nap before the evening entertainment begins.”
