Maxime Bensa and his young French team from Deauville Yacht Club aboard a J/80 – Swallow – are making their Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week debut. This is also the first time in history that a junior team from a French Sailing Club has competed at this regatta.
Team Swallow had a good start to the regatta and after today’s race, are lying 8th in the J/80 fleet, 3rd in the Young Skipper’s Trophy series, and 3rd overall in the Under 25 team trophy series.
Bensa commenting on the team’s performance so far at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week, said: “We were all at the High School in Deauville and with the encouragement of Aberdeen Asset Management and help from the Mr and Mrs Bouvard we were able to make it to this amazing event. We are learning such a lot, particularly about the tides, which we are not so used to. The crew is great and we are looking forward to the rest of the week and hope we can improve. Because we are usually good on tactics, ideally we would like a longer course to give us more tactical choices.
“We are really enjoying it and hope to return next year.”
