The UKSA’s Try Sailing incentive is hugely popular with 100s of visitors to Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week taking the opportunity experience sailing for the first time.
The UKSA is using three of its Colgate 26 keelboats each with one of the UKSA’s leading instructors on board. Commenting on the experience visitors are likely to expect from their session on the water, Jeremy Taylor Watersports instructor at UKSA said: “The Colgate 26 is a great boat sail and perfect for teaching. Most of those who turn up have never been on a boat before so the idea is to give them a bit of tuition, teach them the points of sail and really get them involved including taking the helm. It is a real confidence builder and those who take part, generally really love it and want to continue.”
As the first session of the day returned to Cowes Yacht Haven this morning, there were plenty of smiling faces. Eight-year-old Simon Apsey from Sandown who has never sailed before commenting on his hour on the water said: “Epic. I really want to sail more now which means I want my dad to buy me a boat. I helmed most of the time while my dad did the boring stuff. I told him what to do so he was alright.”
The sailing sessions, which last an hour and cost just £5 per person (minimum suggested donation), run from 0930-1800 throughout the week. As well as learning the first steps in sailing, Try Sailing is also a great opportunity for visitors to see Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week from the water.
