The conditions on the third day of Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week looks set to produce more challenging racing on The Solent.
It will be a predominately sunny day, with lighter early morning winds of just 4-6 knots from the north-west. This is expected to swing into the west-south-west and build initially to 6-10 knots, increasing 10-16 knots by mid afternoon. However, there may also be some calm patches, particularly close inshore off the Royal Yacht Squadron, before the new wind becomes established, which may result in a postponement for White Group classes.
White Group dayboats, including the 80-strong XOD class, will start from the Royal Yacht Squadron line heading towards the east. The first start of the day here will be for the Victory class, which celebrates its 80th anniversary this year.
The White Group Committee Boat for J/70 and SB20 classes will be positioned near Aberdeen E inflatable mark, close to the north shore of The Solent, to the west of Gilkicker Point.
Black Group yachts starting from the Bramble line will initially head to the west before finishing on the squadron line from the east. The Black Group Committee Boat will be stationed near Craftinsure.com in western Solent and will also finish on the RYS line from the east.
