Following the success of Sunsail’s sustainability awareness day last year, Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week has embraced the initiative with the launch of Green Blue Day. The idea is to raise the awareness and give everyone an opportunity to help minimise the impact of boating on the environment.
To support the initiative, the Green Blue team has been at the Regatta Centre during registration where they have not only been offering practical advice on sustainable boating, but have also been handing out free environmental products such as bilge socks, fuel collars and boat wash.
Competitors and visitors to Cowes are also encouraged to take part in the Green Blue competitions. Take a green snap and submit it via Twitter or Instagram using #GoGreenBlue and you’ll be in with a chance of winning one of the great prizes on offer.
Sunsail has been granted an ISO 20121 for Sustainable Event Management for the second year running and are fully committed to raising the awareness of sustainability during all their events. To support their mission Sunsail has installed water stations at Cowes Yacht Haven and Shepards Wharf Marina to enable competitors to re-use water bottles.
Jackie McLean – Class Captain of Sunsail Match First 40s – said, “We are delighted that our fleet is really embracing the initiative. The aim is to get all our fleet to consider using refillable water bottles. It is a simple but really effective way to make a difference.”
James Yearsley winning skipper of Sunsail’s Green Blue Trophy last year, and skipper of Deloitte Blue at this year’s event, commented: “Deloitte is proud to once again support Green Blue day particularly after our success last year. I for one will certainly be re-using my water bottle throughout the week.”
Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week branded sports bottles are available for sale during the week at just £2, with a proportion of all sales being donated to UKSA, the regatta’s Official Charity.
