To endorse the international connection at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week, The Mayor of Deauville, Philippe Augier is in Cowes today to celebrate the introduction of the 'Deauville Comes to Cowes’ initiative.

The towns of Deauville and Cowes are twinned, which makes the Mayor’s visit even more significant, and next year in 2014 celebrations are in place to mark the twinning’s 50th anniversary.

Speaking earlier today about the connection between the two towns, the Mayor of Deauville, Philippe Augier commented: “I came to Cowes last year, for the first time for the start of the Cowes Deauville Race and I fell in love with it. Everybody told me I have to see Cowes Week, so here I am and I have to say, it is a fantastic week. It has a fantastic atmosphere for lovers of sailing.

“Sailing is important for Deauville with links between Deauville YC and the Solent Clubs dating back to 1928 as a result of the friendship by Louis Breguet – founder of Deauville YC – and Sir Thomas Sopwith. Our aim is to continue and develop the connection particularly with the celebrations taking place next year.”

To showcase the exciting developments of Deauville as a leading French sailing destination, The Mayor is hosting a ‘Deauville Comes to Cowes’ evening later today.
