A good weather forecast in store for the weekend could boost the impressive numbers of entries already signed up for the Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week taster day on the final Saturday of the event.

The taster day, is aimed at those who have boats rated under the Island Sailing Club Rating System (ISCRS) and want to race but who are daunted by the idea facing so many boats in the main event.

Newcomers looking for a soft introduction to Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week could do worse than taking the opportunity to have a go. The day costs just £30 and racing will take place over a relatively short course lasting two-three hours, with a late morning start. The plan is to run a simple race format  – along the lines of NAB Tower and back.

Stuart Quarrie, CEO Cowes Week Limited commented: “The idea is to whet the appetite for potential competitors in 2014. Since we launched the initiative there has been a lot of interest from those who’ve never raced at the regatta before, so we are hoping the idea will really provide a service and hopefully encourage more locals to take part in the future.”

Online entry is now closed but it is still possible to enter in person at the Regatta Centre on Cowes Parade before 1700 on Friday 9 August.

For more information, contact the Regatta Centre on 01983 295744.
