Visitors are flocking to Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week this morning to watch the racing and hopefully snatch a glance of HRH The Princess Royal who will be attending the event today.
In keeping with tradition, HRH The Princess Royal is arriving by launch at Trinity Landing before making her way to the Regatta Centre.
In recent years it has been HRH Prince Philip supporting the event as both competitor and spectator. He has also been very much involved in the organisation of the event, having instigated the Cowes Combined Clubs, which transformed Cowes Week from a series of day regattas run by individual clubs to the grand event that we all enjoy today.
Elsewhere at Cowes there’s plenty of activity happening thoughout the day including the Volvo Sailing Speed Challenge featuring speedsters Paul Goodison in a foiling International Moth, Olympic silver medalist Nick Dempsey on a windsurfer, British extreme kitesurfer Sam Lutman-Pauc, and Alex Thomson in his Open 60. There’ll also be an opportunity for spectators to get involved in the event by guessing the speeds of these highly charged Team Volvo ambassadors.
This event is planned for 1700 off the Green, but it is totally dependent on the weather.
