With more and more families taking part in Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week, Family Day is growing in popularity because most families sailing together are really embracing the ethos of the day.

There is already a real family buzz along the High Street as floods of visitors head to the island specifically to celebrate Family Day.

Those on the water flying a Family Day flag from their yacht have the chance of winning a prize from one of the spotter boats zipping around The Solent throughout the day. Thanks to Gill, Bainbridge International, and National Boat Show, there are some great prizes up for grabs, so competitors should keep an eye out in case they are spotted.

On shore Family Day activities are already underway and family-friendly activities including the return of the extremely popular flag making competition for youngsters, will continue throughout the day. The flag-making event, held in conjunction with Cowes Primary School, is based at the Solent Events and Britannia Bar in Cowes Yacht Haven from 1100-1430.

The Hart family, who motored over from the mainland this morning from Hamble Point Marina in their Ribcraft 6m rib, said they were looking forward to seeing what Family Day has to offer. Ben Hart with son William, said he has been coming to Cowes for years but this morning he came with his five year old son Will who steered the rib from Hamble to Town Quay.

Young Will, still wearing his buoyancy aid ater his early morning adventure said: “I want to go flag painting and try out all the new food."

Ben added: “He loves food and has already started off having a chocolate chip cookie, which is one thing he has to have when he arrives at Cowes. We are looking forward to seeing what else is on offer for children.”
