Three brothers Jack Davies (18), Freddie (17), and Charlie (16) from the Yarmouth XOD fleet are using this year’s experience at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week to sharpen their skills for the future.
They began the week with a 21st and 41st which, considering the extreme competition in this 80-strong fleet, it is a solid start to work on. Jack Davies said he is hoping to improve as the days go on and use the experience to come back in the future. “Our results so far gives us a reasonable platform to push off on. For us there are two halves to this regatta. There are the results; we obviously want to do well, but because we are so young there is also the learning aspect. We are here to learn as much as we can so we can come back and do well in the future.”
Sailing with his two brothers is, according to Jack, okay because they generally get on but the potential for heated moments is ever present. “The dynamics are pretty good overall. When things are going well we get on amazingly but when things get a bit more difficult and frustrating that is when there is potential for stress among us. As we are family though, there are never any hard feelings afterwards. That’s the good thing about sailing with siblings.”
