Family day at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week is all about having fun on and off the water.
As racing on The Solent commenced today, shore side activities were already in full swing. One of the busiest places at midday today was the Ondeck stand, which played host, for the second year running, to the children’s activity centre.
This fun session, which is run in association with Ondeck, Cowes Primary School and Aberdeen Asset Management is fast becoming one of the shore side highlights of the day. Cheryl Hedley, teacher at Cowes Primary School, said the aim was to give children plenty of fun things to do. “We have a flag-making competition, and a poster competition, with a prize-giving later. The face painting and modelling clay are also going down well.”
Liz and Phil Segal and their two children Flo and Kit say although they are keen to watch the racing, they think the children’s activity centre is a perfect way introduce them to Cowes Week. “We are not sailors but we have taken part in a few taster sessions at Cowes Week in the past. We are just waiting for the children to get big enough to take it up as a sport.
“Family day encourages the children to become interested in not only the fun and games on shore, but also in sailing in general. It is a really inclusive day.”
Flo Segal, who was keen to show off her painted tiger face, said she is keen to watch the sailing. “I have just had my face painted like a tiger. We are now going to watch the racing and the model boats.”
