Do you know a female sailor who you think should be recognised as worthy winner of the Ladies Day Trophy at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week? If so, we would like to hear from you.

To mark the sixth anniversary of Ladies Day on Thursday 16 August, Cowes Week Limited is keen to expand the number of nominations received for the Ladies Day Trophy by drawing on the success of the last five years.

Ladies Day was first introduced in 2006 as a platform to celebrate women in sailing. Now, with women comprising at least a third of the 8,500 competitors at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week, organisers are keen to further embrace the day by recognising the outstanding contribution, commitment or achievement of women in sailing, which includes those who have undertaken remarkable challenges and who will be racing during the Week.

This winner of this year’s trophy will join previous winners in celebrating this accolade, including the late Betty Moore who had raced at 60 consecutive Cowes Week’s since 1947, Gavia Wilkinson-Cox for her achievements in the Dragon class and for her work in raising funds for the British Olympic and Paralympic teams since the 1990s, and last year’s winner Tina Scott for her outstanding contributions to the XOD class.

Louise Morton, an extremely popular previous winner of the Ladies Day Trophy for her dedication to the sport, which included five years spent reviving the Quarter Ton class to success, said: “Sailing is one sport where women can compete on a level playing field with men. Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week is a perfect opportunity for women to take part, and Ladies Day highlights just how many women are out there on the water and achieving such a lot.”

Ladies Day has also become firmly established as one of the highlights of the Week with a distinct female tone to the day, helping to make it special.

If you have someone in mind to be nominated for the Ladies Day Trophy, all you need to do is click here and complete the on-line form, which includes a box to explain, in no more than 250 words, the reasons for the nomination.
