09:41 Friday 2 Aug 2024 Rupert Holmes/CWL1125 update: Day 7 morning update

A classic day of Cowes Week racing will conclude with the spectacle of a spinnaker finish from the west on the Royal Yacht Squadron line today.

Winds are forecast to build during the morning and will be a lot stronger this afternoon than the past few days. All classes are currently postponed for one hour while waiting for the breeze to stabilise in the western Solent. The first starts will therefore not happen until at least 1130.

1125 update: Racing is now getting under way from the Royal Yacht Squadron line, with the first start for IRC Class 4 at 1130, with the starting sequence expected to last until 1335.

Keep an eye open for the Victory start at 1325, which will have a big gun fired from the RYS cannons in recognition of the class’s 90th anniversary this year.

The first finishers are expected at the RYS line, approaching from the west under spinnaker, from around 1400 onwards.
