09:16 Saturday 27 Jul 2024 Rupert Holmes/CWLShort postponement ahead of sea breeze

The opening day of Cowes Week dawned sunny but with very light winds, ahead of a sea breeze expected to build late morning. The start sequence has therefore been amended, with the starting sequence on the Royal Yacht Squadron line scheduled to commence at 1145 and continuing until 1340.

The majority of the larger Black Group yachts will be racing in the western Solent, with a downwind finish on the RYS line, while the White Group dayboats and the smaller Black Group competitors will be starting upwind, racing mostly in the central and eastern Solent and finishing on the Breakwater line.

When the wind fills in today it’s expected to build to give ideal conditions of 12-18 knots from the south west in bright sun.
