Dockside preparations ahead of tomorrow's North Sails Cowes Week

Only one sleep to go and the 200^th Cowes Week gets underway tomorrow!

With an entry list topping a whopping 641 this evening, the biggest turnout in recent history, North Sails Cowes Week is set to be a bumper edition, and even more so in this long hot summer sunshine here on the Solent race courses.  

Nearly 500 skippers are packing the pre-event briefing this evening where meteorologist Steve Carver predicts light airs tomorrow morning while Principal Race Officer Phil Warwick is outlining his goal for “good racing - and getting back to the bar in time!”.

The pontoons are filling up, crews are sorting through their sail wardrobes, checking over sailing instructions and dragging their suitcases to their accommodation. The music has started and the beer is flowing.

Aside from the on the water action amongst an incredible 36 classes of yachts of all sizes, speeds and ages, there is a spectacular shoreside programme on offer during the week including the return of the legendary fireworks on Friday evening 7th August, live music in virtually every corner of Cowes, Womens’ Day, Youth Day, an aerobatic display… and that’s just for starters. North Sails Cowes Week has begun!!
