One of Cowes Week’s and indeed sailing's most recognisable traditions returns as Mount Gay Rum renews its partnership with the regatta for a fifth consecutive year.
As Official Rum Partner, Mount Gay will once again bring the spirit of Barbados to Cowes Yacht Haven, with its colourful Mount Gay Rum Shack serving frozen cocktails, signature rum serves and daily après-sail celebrations throughout the 200th anniversary regatta.
But for many sailors, there's only one thing on their mind: the legendary Mount Gay Red Hat.
First introduced at the Admiral's Cup in 1983, the distinctive red cap has become one of sailing's most coveted prizes. Instantly recognisable in yacht clubs and regattas around the world, it has evolved into an unofficial badge of honour within the sport.
The catch? You can't buy or beg for one.
Throughout the week, a limited number of Red Hats will be awarded each day at the Mount Gay Rum Shack. There are no entry forms, no published rules and no guaranteed route to success. Join the daily après-sail celebrations, take part in Bajan-inspired games and challenges, enjoy a drink with fellow competitors and, if luck is on your side, you may just leave with sailing's most sought-after souvenir.
Alongside favourites including the Eclipse Black & Stormy, frozen Piña Coladas, Strawberry Daiquiris and the Captain's Triple Rum Punch, North Sails Cowes Week will be serving the new UK exclusive Mount Gay Bajan Spiced Rum, made in Barbados using all-natural ingredients inspired by the island.
Robert Trimble, Chairman of Cowes Combined Clubs, said:
"Some trophies are won on the racecourse, while others have earned legendary status ashore. The Mount Gay Red Hat has become one of sailing's most iconic symbols and we're delighted to welcome Mount Gay back for a fifth year. Their après-sail celebrations have become a firm fixture of Cowes Week’s, bringing competitors together to share stories from the day's racing over a Mount Gay Rum, whether it’s sunny or dark and Stormy."

Maud Tsassis, Mount Gay Brand Manager commented:
"Our Mount Gay Red Cap isn't just a symbol; it's a badge of honour, a shared testament to accomplishment within the global sailing community. For us at Mount Gay Rum, our connection to sailing runs deeper than sponsorship – it's woven into the very fabric of our heritage, a passion shared for centuries. From the refreshing Eclipse Black & Stormy, a true sailor's favourite after a race, to a smooth Mount Gay XO on the rocks or as a delightful Coco Hill at the Captain's briefing, our rum marks moments of triumph, camaraderie, and reflection.
This year, our partnership feels even more precious as we proudly sponsor Cowes Week's 200th Anniversary. To mark this milestone, we're thrilled to unveil our newest release, exclusive to the UK: Mount Gay Bajan Spiced! We can't wait to bring the energy and celebrate at Cowes."
