The 1851 Trust - Where sport and science collide

The 1851 Trust take science beyond the textbook to get young people active and inspired by sailing. As the Official Charity of INEOS TEAM UK, The British Challenger for the America’s Cup they inspire young people about the cutting edge innovation and technology behind the world’s oldest sporting trophy. Their nationwide programmes which are reaching students in all corners of the Country include:

INEOS Rebels Crew

Launched in 2019 INEOS Rebels Crew, is providing 6,000 sailing sessions in 12 locations across the UK during 2019.

STEM Crew HQ, Portsmouth

STEM Crew HQ is our home in Portsmouth at the base of INEOS TEAM UK. Our education space provides exciting, hands-on, free of charge school trips which use the excitement of America’s Cup sailing to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists.

Go Sail

Our well-established Go Sail programme provides opportunities for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to try sailing. As well as school trips to STEM CREW HQ, we work with partners across the Solent to provide RYA dinghy sailing courses.

Next Generation Roadshow for Girls

New for 2019 is our Next Generation Roadshows for Girls programme, in partnership with the Department for Transport. These events focus on encouraging girls to consider maritime and engineering careers through a fun STEM focussed activity day.
