The Scaramouche Sailing Trust

The Scaramouche Sailing Trust funds the trailblazing Greig City Academy (GCA). GCA’s sailing programme takes students from inner city London, to compete at national level in classes from offshore yachts to Laser dinghies.

The students are the sailors as well as the shore crew, restoring the boats, training and getting in the sea miles, learning how to race and stay safe on the water.

They benefit from everything sailing has to offer, learning new levels of resilience, team work and confidence - that changes their lives. In 2017 they were the first comprehensive state school to complete the Rolex Fastnet Race. Two years later they completed the race again, becoming the first to do back-to-back campaigns. They continue to compete at national level. Just this year one of their crews, Cote, won the Quarter Tonner class in the Round the Island Race.

The Scaramouche Sailing Trust was set up to raise funds for their sailing programme and take the message out more widely in the sailing world. They have enjoyed wonderful support from the marine industry and those prepared to give their time, goods in kind and funds.

Like all charities, the Trust depends on the generosity of donors to keep their amazing work going. Find out more and consider giving £10 a month or more. It would make a massive difference.

Our priorities are:

  • Raise the funds that Greig City Academy Sailing needs in the coming years and move them to a more sustainable position
  • Support other state schools to create and run high impact sailing programmes
  • Be national advocates for inclusion and diversity in sailing and sport, working with national sailing bodies
  • Follow our story on your chosen social media channel or visit our website where you can make a donation.

Jubilee Sailing Trust

Everyone at the Jubilee Sailing Trust is really excited to be a part of Cowes Week 2022. We will be in attendance with our beautiful three masted 65 metre long unique wooden tall ship, SV Tenacious.

There will be opportunities for people to come onboard and experience our tall ship first hand, as well as chances for some groups or organisations to use her for entertaining as well as watching the racing.

If you would be interested in an entertaining package during the regatta week onboard our tall ship, please contact us early to register your interest via suzie.brushett@jst.org.uk.

Onshore we plan to have an exhibition stand where we will be inviting people to try their luck to win some fantastic raffle prizes and other sailing related activities to keep everyone entertained.

As the only tall ship in the world designed and built to be sailed by a truly mixed ability crew, we are able to welcome and provide sailing to a wide variety of people who may have impairments and health conditions.

Who sails with us?

We welcome people from all walks of life. Anyone can sail with us from age 16 upwards on a voyage. Children from as young as 12 can join a day sail, if accompanied by a parent or appropriate adult, making it a great day out for families, schools and groups. There is no upper age limit on either voyages or day sails. Many who sail with us are complete sailing novices, whilst some are passionate tall ship sailors. We aim to make a difference to the lives of all our participants, but we know that our impact is especially strong for:

  • disabled people, including those with physical impairments and learning disabilities or difficulties
  • those dealing with long term health issues or mental health conditions
  • the lonely or socially isolated
  • those dealing with significant challenges or change in their career or educational life - people from disadvantaged backgrounds, including disadvantaged youth

Activities aboard

Aboard Tenacious people become deeply immersed in an inclusive sailing experience. At sea, where conditions can be unpredictable and sometimes wild, the experience is challenging yet rewarding. Teams work together to sail the ship and perform tasks with real responsibilities. The adaptive design of Tenacious creates an accessible and enabling environment for all. Everyone is seen and treated as an equal, contributing to the best of their ability. On a JST sailing adventure, people’s differences disappear and lasting friendships form.
