The 1851 Trust - Official Charity

The 1851 Trust is a dynamic and innovative education charity committed to inspiring young people to become innovators of the future and stewards of the environment. It is widely recognised that not enough talented young people are choosing careers in science, engineering and technology. We harness the power of professional sport to challenge perceptions and to excite more young people about the opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

The Trust runs an impressive range of exciting activities to inspire young people, recognising the diversity of their skills and interests and recognising the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects to their futures. Our core activities include:

The Tech Deck and Education Centre

Opened by HRH The Duchess of Cambridge, the Tech Deck offers students a unique, interactive and behind-the-scenes experience, enabling them to get close to the boats, people and technologies in development at the team base in Portsmouth.

BT STEM Crew: Supported by BT

This online platform provides free teaching resources for 11-16 year olds. Curriculum-linked modules for Physics, Maths, Design & Technology, Biology and Chemistry each feature engaging short films, interactive and differentiated worksheets using real-life examples from a professional sports team.

We create unique programmes, combining sailing and STEM education elements to help bring learning to life. Take a look at our projects which are inspiring the #NextGeneration

1851 Trust at Cowes Week

During Lendy Cowes Week 2018, the 1851 Trust were running fun and engaging workshops - inspired by the excitement of the America’s Cup - for young people. They also hosted family friendly and informative events from their stand on Cowes Parade including a highly entertaining Treasure Hunt around Cowes. To end the week, a charitable auction was held at the Lendy Lounge, raising thousands for the charity.
