CWL pays tribute to Geoffrey Myburgh

It is with great sadness Cowes Week Limited has to report that Geoffrey Myburgh (RSA), a pioneer in international youth sailing and an ISAF International Judge, Committee member and ISAF Silver Medal recipient, and Chairman of the Cowes Week Protest Committee since 1987, has died aged 81.
Geoffrey regularly competed in his beloved Laser and worked at all levels in regatta organisation, in particular youth sailing, throughout the world. He was a well-known and much loved Cowes Week character.
Geoffrey was the friendly face of the Cowes Week protest room for more years than most of us can remember. Defusing angry situations with his intimate knowledge of the racing rules and a ready smile, he would almost halve the number of protests that our protest panels had to deal with.
We will sorely miss his wit, wisdom, warmth and experience and our thoughts go out to his wife, Helen, and the rest of his close-knit family at this sad and difficult time.
